Our conception:  “ ... children don’t have to, they want to ... “

The Private Primary School is an unconventional, modern school with national operation, where education takes place in an environment in which the quality of communication creates a level of good interpersonal relationships, with an emphasis on balance, harmony, integrity of personality education, its intellectual, emotional, character and moral dimension, where the student is understood as a free, active, creative and responsible person, where the educational environment is not only understood as the place where cognition is acquired, but where young people can understand and comprehend his/her position in society, which he/her fully perceives and also gets to know himself/herself.

We perceive our school as a school for children, differing from others in a number of aspects:

• unconventional conception of education, modern methods of education
• active contact with English from the first year
• integrated education of content and language
• bilingual education, teaching by native speakers and qualified professionals certified in teaching foreign languages
• at the first level of the Primary School – the first contact with English in teaching maths and natural science, communication in English in a relaxed, playful way, such as at lessons of art
• at the first level of the Primary School – biology, physic, chemistry, history and geography in English – a natural continuous transition from the mother tongue
• individual approach to each child respecting his/her natural talent
• creating natural teacher’s authority

The Private Primary School is the first bilingual primary school in Prešov. One of the main requirements for finding one’s place in contemporary society is the ability to use foreign languages, which is stated in the declarations of the Slovak Ministry of School, Science, Research and Sport. “The main requirement from an educated person is foreign language literacy. The essential philosophy of reforms in the language policy is to support the foundation of a multicultural European society, which presumes the achievement of communicative skills in at least two foreign languages.“ The Private Primary School is a co-author of the new content of education at primary schools where the languages of instruction are both Slovak and English.

In conclusion, let us stop and present George Santayana’s statement:

“The child only educated by school is an uneducated child.“
